When A Verse Tells A Tale
dear john letter
caught in the railing
icy water below
Observed early this morning:
jet streak
through the pre-dawn sky
connecting the dots

he’s on the phone
begging her to listen
I shouldn’t eavesdrop
My mind goes back to one dark night when I was in my teens, observing a young man having an earnest conversation with his significant other, wondering how the story would end.
leaf-padded trail
muffles the grumble
of your aching feet
my sweet peas
bloom on the widow’s side
where they’re needed
we returned the shoes
she bought to dance in after
her last treatment

one small cloud
hooked on the new moon’s horn
why won’t it let go?
time like a shadow
touches me in its passage
leaving so little
sculptors have been
in the pantry the cheese
all Swiss now
she told him so often
take it easy on that curve
the wail of sirens
